Taking the perfect picture isn't easy.
It requires getting the precise pose, color and tilt exactly right. The perfect picture requires that the photographer take into account the surrounding scenery, props and backgrounds and of course the best positioning of the object of the photo, whether dealing with a family portrait, a photo of a pet or a photo of your kids. If photographing young children, you may need to be crafty to catch just the right pose.

A few more things to consider:
- Use plain backgrounds because then the whole focus will be on the subject.
- Move in close to fill your picture up with the subject.
- Make sure the focus lock is turned on to create a sharp image.
- Watch the light, make sure it makes your subject look nice, it doesn't then move.
- Become a bossy picture director if a smile tilt or pose doesn't look right, then please inform the subject nicely to move position.
- Saying "1... 2... 3... Cheese!" is still the best way to capture their smiles. If you don't provide the countdown, your subjects will try to hold a smile, waiting for you to take the picture. This results in strained and slightly un-natural smiles. Count down for them and don't forget to say "Cheese", which is naturally funny-sounding. That way the smiles are fresh and natural.
