Mix and Match with Color Blocking
The color blocking fashion trend has returned to the delight of designers and fashionistas everywhere. Not only does this style provide an endless number of ways to wear what currently exists in your wardrobe, it can also be quite slenderizing. Carefully blocked colors will draw the eye away from your least favorite areas and pop in places you want to emphasize.
Color Blocking Apparel
There are quite a few ways to color block your clothing. One is to have a different color on each piece. For example, you may want to wear a blue skirt, yellow blouse, and red belt. Another version of color blocking apparel is to purchase a single piece that has the colors blocked for you. Slip a tan tank top over a brightly hued long-sleeve turtleneck sweater. You can layer even more blocked colors with jackets or sweaters.
Color Blocking with Accessories
Have a variety of colors of shoes, scarves, and handbags for color blocking. You can use this trick with all bright hues or use a brightly colored scarf or pair of shoes to add pizazz to a black skirt and white blouse. Remember that dark colors recede while lighter colors draw attention.
Jewelry Color Blocking
If you are a fan of monochromatic dressing, you might want to shake things up with some jewelry in a contrasting tone. A solid black V-neck dress provides an exquisite frame for a ruby red necklace. You can also add a brooch or cluster of pins in a single color for emphasis.
Figure Slimming with Color Blocking
Give your figure a slimmer looking silhouette by color blocking. You can find dresses and tops with colorful, elongating panels in the front and back, with black side panels that make you look ten or twenty pounds thinner. A dress with a black bottom and lighter colored top will draw the eye up and away from the hips. Another method of creating a slimmer illusion is wearing black leggings or tights with an extra long tunic or short dress in a bright color.
Enjoy mixing and matching your favorite colors to create a look that is your own. Pick existing pieces from your wardrobe and make them new again by color blocking. Don’t be afraid to go with bold colors from head to toe.
